And now you dancing !! :)

Now I fully understand what is expected from a music magazine and who my audience is I can start to design it. To begin I drew my design on paper highlighting the colour scheme, layout and main features.

My Cover !
My Contents !
My Double Page Spread !!

and move your feet !!

Before we could design our magazine we looked at four front covers and analysed their aesthetics. This then gave us a greater idea of how to approach our own magazine based on our audience.

Feel the beat ....

Now that I have established who my magazine is aimed at and what genres of music are going to be included. I have used this knowledge combined with my knowledge of current music
magazines to develope a flat plan of what my magazine will look like.

Who, What, Where, How ???

Now I have looked in detail at other magazines I have to decided who mine was going to be aimed at. I answered some questions about my magazine, and the audience I am targeting.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who is my magazine aimed at?
My magazine is aimed at a Female niche market.

What ethnicity are they?
My magazine will not exclude any ethnicities but will be aimed at a certain type of person (who couldbe of any ethnicity).

How old are they?
The readers of my magazine will probably be between the ages of 16-25.

Where do they shop?
They will shop at highstreet stores such a Topshop, HMV ect. They will also visit boutique shops and markets (e.g.Portobello)

What music do they listen to?
They will be open to most music genres, and will mainly be interested in the quality of the music, so not just commercially successful artists will be included. Thay will mainly listen to such genres as, Acoustic, Anti-folk and indie rock.

How do they spend thier disposable income?
They will spend their money on clothes, music and socialising. When they socialise they will go to cafes, bars, resturants, the cinema (probably independent ones), the theatre and art galleries.

What new technologies do they use?
They will probably own a laptop (and have the internet), an i-pod and a mobile phone. They will also own a TV and a DVD player.

How have they been educated?
They will be in University or further education. If they are not they will probably be persuing a passion such as becoming a writer, artist or musician.

How will I target them?
I will target them by creating a music magazine that includes the genres of music that they like. I will also make the layout and style appeal to them. Using clean lines and pastel colours in an asthetically pleasing design.

What's expected ............

I annotated a Contents page of a music magazine to establish what they feature. I have therefore found out what I will need to include on my own contents page. Below is a print screen of the annotated page - that further highlights what I need to focus on.

It's a Rolling Stone :)

Today we looked at specific music magazines (Rolling Stone) and discovered some of the conventions of music magazines. We compared a Rolling Stone from the 80's with a current edition. We found that generally the main feature, layout and tone ect. had stayed the same. Changes, however, included the size (they are now smaller), the quality of print (thay used to be printed on paper, they now use a glossy effect) - these changes show use how audience expectations have changed.
We will have to address these factors when making a music magazine of our own.
