A slice of pie ...

After handing many questionnaires out around the school and I then had to analyse the results. I used tallies, percentages and eventually pie charts.

Here are some of the conclusions that effected my decisions the most!!

The results were;
Lower school - 10%
Upper school - 10%
Sixth form - 45%
Whole school - 35%

This led me to decide that my magazine would be aimed at sixth formers! But how would I tackle this, I decided that the magazine should visually be quite formal as it is aimed at the older audience. The writing however should be more informal and 'jokey' so it still seems approachable.

The results were;
Weekly- 30%
Each term - 30%
Monthly - 35%
Annually - 5%

I once again responded to the questionnaire results deciding to release the magazine monthly this is important as I will have to show the issue number on the front cover.

The results were;
Black and white – 25%
Bright colours – 20 %
Pastel colours – 50%
Other – 5%

Due to the high percentage of people who have requested pastel colour I am going to use this colour scheme throughout my front cover. The 5% that accounts for other were students who requested stripy or polka dot themes! This could maybe be used on special editions of the magazine in the future!

The other questions on my questionnaire allowed me to identify the feel of the magazine people wanted practical things such as calendars to appear in the magazine. I also found that people wanted it to be student quite oriented with students work appearing in the magazine and it to be partially written by students.

It's all about the Questions !

Before I even began to think about what my school magazine would look like or contain I decided to create a questionnaire so I could find out what the pupils of the school really wanted. I asked 9 multiple choice questions and also had a space for any other comments. The questions had to give me an idea what the pupils wanted the feel of the magazine to be like and also some basic questions about how the magazine should look visually.

Why are you here ??

I will be using this blog to document the different stages throughout my media coursework. To begin I will be documenting my preliminary task! This is a 'warm up' task that allows us to develop our skills and gain a better understanding of the project. For our preliminary task we have to create the front cover of a school magazine, to do this we will have to understand the important of Photoshop, market research, layout and written text.

These are all skills that will be extremely useful once we move onto our main task, the front cover, the contents page and a double page spread of a music magazine.

Read on and Enjoy !!
